Welcome back to the Social Justice Book Club: Borders, where we will read and discuss fiction, nonfiction, and poetry about immigration, asylum, and borders. Join us on the last Sunday of every month for insightful conversation.
There will be no meeting of the Social Justice Syllabus Book Club in December, so please join us for our next meeting on Sunday, January 27th to discuss Borderlands / La Frontera by Gloria Anzaldúa. Every month our selected titles are discounted 20% through the date of the book club. All are welcome, no purchase required.
Rooted in Gloria Anzaldúa’s experience as a Chicana, a lesbian, an activist, and a writer, the essays and poems in this volume profoundly challenged, and continue to challenge, how we think about identity. Borderlands / La Frontera remaps our understanding of what a “border” is, presenting it not as a simple divide between here and there, us and them, but as a psychic, social, and cultural terrain that we inhabit, and that inhabits all of us.
