Community Event: Rally Against Deportation and Defend Vietnamese Refugees @ Hing Hay Park | Seattle | WA | US

Join us as we come together to:
+ Fight deportation of ALL people
+ Say NO to the attempt to change the repatriation agreement between the US and Việt Nam. DEFEND the 8,500+ Vietnamese community members at risk of deportation, separating them from their families and loved ones.
+ Hold a vigil for those who been separated from their families, who are currently in detention, and those who have died in ICE custody.

We are calling on the administration, elected officials, the media, and community members to defend our refugee and migrant communities and to keep our families and loved ones home and together.

We will gather at 12 noon on Friday January 11th, 2019 at Hing Hay Park in the Seattle Chinatown-International District.

WHO WE ARE:
We’re a group of Vietnamese community members working with our friends and allies in the Puget Sound area to speak out against detention, deportation, and inhumane treatment of refugees, migrants, and asylum seekers. We plan this rally under the guidance of Directly Impacted members of the Vietnamese community, and API-focused re-entry orgs such as FIGHT and Asians & Pacific Islanders Re Entry of Orange County.

WHY WE’RE HOLDING THIS RALLY:
Though deportation, and deportation of Southeast Asian war refugees, isn’t new, the current administration has increased it sharply. The latest group of people at risk for deportation includes Vietnamese refugees who fled a war-torn country and arrived to the US before 1995. The Trump administration is currently attempting to change a repatriation agreement between the two countries. If they succeed, 8500+ people are at risk of being separated from their communities and families. We’re holding this rally to urge the U.S. Government to MAINTAIN the agreement and protect Vietnamese refugees.

EVENT AGENDA:
We will hear from people who are directly impacted and their families. We will also hear from elected officials and community members. A complete schedule is forthcoming.

TRAFFIC NOTE:
SR 99 will be closed at 10 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, 2019. Our event is at 12 noon and while we do not expect this closure to heavily impact us, please check wsdot.com to plan your route. http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/Viaduct/realign99
