June 21: The Red in the Rainbow: Socialists and LGBTQ Liberation

Tuesday, June 21
7:00 p.m.
Common Good Cafe
(Downstairs at the University Temple United Methodist Church)
1415 NE 43rd St.
Seattle, WA 98105

Join us for a discussion about what socialists have to say about the fight for LGBTQ liberation. We’ll be participating in Pride weekend, particularly Trans Pride, and we want to use this time to discuss how Marxists understand the role of queer oppression under capitalism and how we fight it. To get a brief overview of a socialist analysis of queer oppression, you can read this detailed review by Christopher Phelps of Sherry Wolf’s book Sexuality and Socialism in the International Socialist Review. You can also order Sherry Wolf’s excellent book at the Haymarket Books website or buy one from our book table at the meeting.

Part of our meeting will also be devoted to a discussion about our local movement activism and our perspectives about building the left in Seattle.
