• What we’ll do
At our last session, we chose On New Terrain, by Kim Moody, published by Haymarket Books, paperback, close to 300 pages. We will split it into two sessions. For our next meeting on Monday, March 5, 5:30 pm in the Labor Temple, room to be determined, we will discuss Parts I & II. Here is an excerpt from the publisher about the book: Moody analyzes how recent changes in capitalism have altered both the composition of the working class & the economic & political ground on which it struggles. He challenges conventional wisdom about a disappearing working class & the inevitability of a 2-party political structure as the only framework for struggle. He shows how recent developments in capitalist production impact the working class & its power to resist the status quo. He argues that this transformed industrial terrain offers new possibilities for organizing in the workplace & grassroots independent political action, strengthened by re-emerging labor & social movements.
