On Tuesday, July 31st, the City Council’s PLUZ (Planning, Land Use, and Zoning) Committee will conduct a hearing on the University of Washington’s proposed Campus Master Plan, which will govern the university’s expansion for years to come.
Please come out and help pack the room! The U District Alliance for Equity and Livability is urging the City to require that UW provide full transit benefits for all their employees, build more affordable housing, ensure that workers can access affordable childcare, and more.
This is not a public hearing, because the approval of the Campus Master Plan is a quasi-judicial process. Our position will be presented by a panel including reps from UW workers’ unions and community allies such as TRU, Sierra Club, and more. It is vital that we pack the council chambers to show the strength of community support for a plan that mitigates the transportation and housing impacts of the UW’s growth and benefits workers, students, and the whole community.
